Reception
Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage.
At Thomas Jolyffe Primary School we promote a caring ethos and put the welfare of each child first. We hope that by working together we can provide a happy and supportive start to school life. Staff are committed to providing an enriched and exciting learning environment where a mixture of child initiated and adult led learning experiences underpin good progress.
Admissions
Through a carefully planned induction to school life, which begins with the play sessions visits, we hope that each child becomes familiar with their new surroundings and adjusts quickly to new routines. In addition staff also aim to visit your child in their pre-school setting and speak to their key worker. We also offer you an optional home visit in September, more details will be provided at the new parents evening in June.
As part of our organistation for new admissions, we introduce children into school in a small group. This provides us with the time to work closely with each child, enabling them to become familiar with the basic daily routine.
There are many new people to meet and a variety of new experiences to encounter - which we will guide and support children through. We begin to create a 'family' atmosphere where everyone helps each other.
We have an open door policy and staff are always happy to discuss your childs progress in school, so please do not hesitate to pop in for a chat.
Classroom Life
Thomas Jolyffe is a two form entry school. RA and RB stand alone as two classes but work mostly as one unit, sharing the learning environment and working alongside each other.

These are the sounds and tricky words that we are working on this term. Please help your child to recognise and write them. Please use this link to help with letter formation. We are following the cursive handwriting programme so you may find this useful to look at the letterjoin website.
If you are a prospective parent why not have a look at our reception A-Z pack.
News and Events
We are very pleased to advise that Mrs Smith will be returning to Class Ra from Monday 24 June 2013 following her maternity leave. From that date Mrs Smith will be working with the class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Buckland will be teaching them on Thursdays and Fridays. We are sure you will join us in welcoming Mrs Smith back to Thomas Jolyffe.
